Yesterday I attended the sad occasion of Valentina Grace Warren’s funeral. A sad day for our community, she is such a beautiful girl. Although I don’t know the Warren family personally, I wanted to pay respects on behalf of our family.
Throughout the service was a resounding gratitude for our community. The response from our community has made a huge and significant impact on the Warren family and their whanau, there were stories of neighbours providing around the clock food for the family from the minute they returned from the hospital on Friday until coming to the funeral service. The neighbours in Mayburn Ave have gone above and beyond in a time of tragedy, many neighbours offering accommodation to visiting whanau so they could be close to the family.
The Give-A-Little funds have been well supported and even our little kindy on Harbour View drive is collecting to put together a basket to take to the family. There was such an incredible sense of solidarity from our community at the funeral.
I guess if there is anything I could add it would be that it’s usually the weeks after the funeral, when everyone has gone back home that the ongoing support is so vital. Could I encourage you to send a card (10a Mayburn Road), drop off a meal or send some flowers. You don’t have to know the family personally to send your support, it will make a difference.
This blog is simply to acknowledge the amazing people that call Te Atatu Peninsula home – our community. So proud.
