Hope everyone had a great Christmas day with family! I also hope you got the much needed rest that we all look forward to.
I thought I would share a little about our holiday, I’ve included a video so you can get more of an idea about the area.
It has been an amazingly hot and dry summer so far and my family and I enjoyed two weeks at Treasure Island campground which is nestled between a surf beach (South Pataua – locally known as “frog town”) and an estuary. Treasure Island campground has a shop which sells most essentials, freshly baked bread during Christmas holidays and you can even get takeaways when you just don’t feel like cooking. The campground runs a tight ship with security doing nightly rounds kindly asking campers to keep the noise down. Friends and I have been asked to quiet down a bit while playing cards at 11pm which is hard to do with a royal flush.
Pataua is located just 20 to 25 mins out of Whangarei on the east coast and it is incredible. the coast line is dotted with beautiful white sandy beaches, rugged rocks which are perfect for fishing and diving. It also has wide areas of estuary which is a favourite for those who like water skiing.
When we were setting up camp, the family next to us who were also setting up came from Te Atatu Peninsula too!
I hope you like the video – I feel it captures the essence of kiwi holidays. Please leave a comment or like our video on youtube.
Enjoy the rest of the amazing summer weather!
BTW – Patuau is prounounced Pa-tow (as in tow-er)
