Wasssuppp!
That’s what we thought when we saw the wasp highway set up outside our dining room window a month ago.
I’ve heard of a few other locals having similar encounters …. in holes, hedges and trees. I have to admit I’ve been a bit nervous about getting rid of them watching them fly back and forth into the hole in the bank wondering just how big a community they have down there.
First attempt was some wasp killer spray on a t-shirt which I pushed into a hole during a night raid when they are supposed to be sleeping. The first mission was a bit of a fail as the entrance was semi blocked and it didn’t seem to affect the wasp highway.
Another week went by while I mentally regrouped, second attempt and I was armored up with snowboarding gear as I poured a 1 litre bottle of Kerosene down the entrance and jammed another t-shirt far as it could go and finally put a wet towel to cover the entrance .. sweet success with only one sting on my foot (which stays itchy for days!)
We would love to hear from anyone who has had a wasp encounter in Te Atatu Peninsula or around West Auckland.
